First and foremost, shout out to all the newly elected officials. Your adventure begins at 12:01 a.m. on Sept. 1. For those re-elected, congratulations on winning the trust of your voters once again. Let’s all work together as one Grundy. A special mention must be said for our outgoing sheriff Clint Shrum. We were incredibly blessed to have Sheriff Shrum at the helm these past eight years. He successfully navigated a new jail being built, continued to be fiscally responsible throughout his two terms, and created a reentry program that garners great respect in the state and national law enforcement arenas. I also would be remiss if I didn’t mention an historic moment at Monday’s swearing-in ceremony. Grundy Mayor Michael Brady officially became the first Republican in the courthouse (1844-2022). 12th Judicial District’s first Republican Public Defender Ted Engel was there to celebrate their shared success. The 12th Judicial District had a clean sweep of Republican successes as well. As a 7th generation Grundy Countian, six of which were all Democrats, it is a moment in time that I will never forget. The Scotch-Irish and Native American ancestry always trends towards freedom.

Art and Music are two of my favorite themes when it comes to incorporating beauty and harmony into our lives. South Cumberland Community Fund has joined with mural artist Andee Rudloff to create a 10th Anniversary Special Places Project that everyone can be a part of. If this idea intrigues you, come on out next Tuesday, August 30, 6pm, to Ole Roundhouse Park in Tracy City. Mural artist Andee Rudloff will be on hand to get ideas on how our community tells stories about itself through images. We all know what we love about our home, now is the time to share those happy places with the artist who will then turn those ideas into mural art. Leave it to SCCF to come up with a cool collaborative project that we can all enjoy.
